Peg talks to Andrew Earle on the podcast, "Mind of a Therapist"
“Often the hands know how to solve a riddle with which the intellect has wrestled in vain." Carl Jung said this years ago and Dr. Peg Hurley Dawson has both personal and professional experiences of witnessing this phenomenon. She studied a therapeutic process known as Kalffian Sandplay which changed her life. See the testimonials from both professionals and her clients whose lives completely changed from meeting with her. Their narratives are below in the testimonial section.
As a professional, or an individual seeking a different way to heal from or treat mental or sexual health issues, Dr. Peg Hurley Dawson invites you to see your own deeper truths.
Are you able to take a path that never follows a linear or straight line? One that engages all of the senses? A felt sense that exisists only when engaging the body and mind?
Add a different technique to the already existing wonderful toolbox of treatments your already incorporate.
As an individual seeking a different experience from yourself, you don't have to define yourself as a diagnosis you been given. Just as the body knows how to heal itself, the mind also knows how to instinctively heal itself if given the proper conditions: an attuned person to witness you in an environment that engages a felt sense of comfort. Your journey will bring you inspiration, connection to yourself and others, and a renewed sense of Self.
Integrated Sand Therapy (IST)
Utilizes modern therapeutic treatment modalities in combination with a sandtray and figurines.
Integrated Sand Therapy (IST) is recommended for both individuals and couples therapy.
The unconscious mind has its own language but doesn't utilize words.
It uses metaphors, images, and figurines to creatively communicate, solve mental and sexual health issues, and complex trauma which ultimately allowing personal growth and Self-acceptance.
This is a difficult question to answer as each individual or couple will heal at their own pace.
"Peg Dawson Hurley is a knowledgeable, unique, accomplished therapist. I am grateful to have her as a former sex therapy supervisor and now colleague. She shared her techniques on how to weave treatment interventions. Her depth and breadth of understanding quickly gets to the core of an individual's growth point. Her multifaceted approach combining Internal Family Systems with a sand tray and another modality, sandplay, The Polyvagal Theory, and EMDR, to name just a few, elicit change and access to deep-rooted negative narratives. She uses tools, such as the Pro-Symptom Belief Cards, to help clients access visual and tactile fields while working with long-term memories. If you get the honor of working with Peg Hurley Dawson, know your life will be indefinitely positive changed."

Peg was my sex therapy supervisor for over a year. She holds a wealth of knowledge and provides great insight into the workings of various modalities and techniques. During my time under her guidance, she showed me how to incorporate her Pro-Symptom Belief Cards (PSB). Whenever I use the PSB Cards, I am able to gain insight into how to help my client and the negative cognitions they are experiencing. I also provide therapy to quite a few therapists. Most inquiry about how they can obtain the PSB Cards to use in their own practice. Using Peg’s PSB Cards has taken my treatment abilities to another level! I highly recommend adding them to one’s therapy toolbox. Monique Rendles, MA, LMFT, CCTP-ll
I have been in therapy on and off for the majority of my adult life due to PTSD. I tried a myriad of modalities that resulted in some progress, but not enough to help me feel whole and empowered. There were also times that I tried anti depressants and anti anxiety medication. Those just left me feeling foggy and disconnected. Basically I was discouraged and resigned to having every aspect of my life tainted by my trauma. About a year and a half ago I took a deep breath and decided to look for something different. Although I was sceptical about sand play/sand tray, I wanted to give it a try. I am so glad I did because it has changed my life in a way that other therapies hadn't. It allowed my psyche to express itself in a manner that words alone could not. I feel more connected, compassionate, and loving toward myself. Peg has not only an extensive knowledge of her vocation, she has an intuitive sense of what aspects of her approach I need in each session. My life and relationships have vastly improved. I strongly recommend this type of therapy to persons trying to recover from trauma!"

"I had tried a number of therapy types before finding Peg. Some of these helped soothe my trauma temporarily but only Peg's methods helped create a truly permanent feeling of healing. For the 1st time in my life, I feel powerfully grounded and excited for each new day. Truly amazing! Truly life-changing!"

"After many years of failed and sometimes traumatic therapy sessions, I had to try one last time to save my marriage. I reached out to Peg Hurley Dawson because she was recommended through the adult alternative lifestyle/polyamorous community. I needed someone with whom I could be open, not feel judged and with my traumatic history of previous healthcare providers where I didn’t feel safe. Peg made me feel comfortable and non-judge very quickly, a huge accomplishment because I never found any therapist who could do this for me. Together, we quickly learned that much of my trauma combined with my ‘Pro-Symptom Beliefs' were causing me to be easily triggered. Peg tailored a therapeutic approach that satisfied my need for a gentle approach to help me heal from my past traumas and enable me not to be so easily triggered. When we moved to our first sand tray - we were able to quickly explore without having to talk about my traumatic background. While working in the sand the figures I choose spoke for me. My brain worked from my subconscious - only selecting events to work on when I was ready. I was able to achieve in months in my sand tray therapy sessions far more than decades failed previous modalities. Before working in the tray, therapy always felt like I took 2 steps forward and then I fell 3 steps back. In the sand, I can work in a safe space without words and work through my traumas in a gentle, non-judgmental way. It is hard to describe how I experience the healing I have found working in the sand, but it is like a mixture of finding calm and peace, and then finding and loving my authentic self. In addition, I found confidence and for the first time in my life, I am so proud of who I am - ALL OF ME, not just some of my parts. I can't put it all into words how much I appreciate Peg being a present guide throughout my healing process of finding and loving my authentic Self."
